Will Dunia Finance Send Me to Jail Over Missed Payments?

By on September 30, 2014

“Dear Jon,

I am currently working and residing in UAE particularly Dubai. i am endebted with Dunia finance, actually i missed 2 payments which i havent paid as of now but yet i am continuing my installments to my loan til now.

the problem is i am pregnant and about to go home this end of october. i received calls and SMS of police case file nos sent to concerned police station only. no name of the station was given. my monthly installment with them is AED 2534.00 missed 2 so have a AED 5068.00 unpaid balance. with these amount will Dunia really file a case against me and could possibly held me in the airport upon going home. this troubled me a lot. i am trying my best to pay them but my situation doesnt allow me to do so.. i tried to negotiate but they dont cooperate. i resigned from work due to unfavorable condition as well.

Will Dunia sent me to Jail for this AED 5,068.00 unpaid balance. it is equivalent to 2 bounce cheque.

I hope you could shed light on my troubled mind.

Thanks.

Aimee”

Aimee,

I can understand your concerns here, and wish I could give you good news.

Unfortunately being in debt in Dubai and missing payments is not a good situation to be in, particularly in your condition.

As to if Dunia will have a warrant issued against you and have you detained, I cannot really answer, but I would say that is what can occur in these situations.

Can a family member or friend pay the two missed payments to “buy” you some time?

My advice would be to leave as soon as just to get this behind you. What country are you returning to?

You can speak to a solicitor there where you are to have them inquire as to if a warrant has already been issued, and what you can do about it.

Let me know what you find out and we can see what options you may have, however, the best option is just to leave the country.

Jon
